“Persuasive Project Topic Request.”

After reviewing the Voxopop discussion, I would like to persuade people why should an adult adopt a teenager, why should an adult become a CASA at SPA, or why married couples should be houseparents of SPA. You may listen to my class’s discussion here.

“First Persuasive Paragraph.”

In 2010 Social networking sites allow family and friends to stay in contact easily without having to go on an airplane. Unfortunately students here aren't allowed to go on social networking sites because students abuse the privilege. I believe this should be changed. Most students use it for positive things and not negative. For example, they could just be going on the sites to talk to close relatives or friends instead of posting inappropriate pictures and talking to strangers. Many adults don't trust teenagers to be appropriate on the Internet, but not all teenagers are the same. Social networking sites are very beneficial and should not be banned due to the few people who chose not to cooperate.

"The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant" and "Catch the Moon" Theme Comparison Essay.

Love has a variety of effects on people. When it is pure it can change people for the better and heal their pain. “ Catch the Moon” was written by a Puerto Rican American woman and is set in the Caribbean Hispanic Barrio. “ The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant was written by a Caucasian man from New Hampshire and is set in a New England summer home waterfront community. In “Catch the Moon” and “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” The main character a teenage boy, believes himself to be in love with a beautiful girlhe just met. However, In “Catch the Moon,” Luis feelings for Naomi redeem him by inspiring to return to acts of goodness. In “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant,” The fourteen yearold boy realizes that “loving” one for their looks is shallow and futile.
In the story “The bass, the River and Sheila Mant” the main character is a boy who loves to fish. The boy falls in love with a girl named Sheila Mant but she hates fishing. He decided to take Sheila out of a canoe, on a date, and ends up catching a bass. He decides to let the bass go and later regrets his actions. In the story the main character says “There would be other Sheila Mants in my life, other fish, and though I came close once or twice, it was the these secrets, hiding tuggings in the night that claimed me, and I never made the samemistake again”. The character changes because he learns not to give up something he loves for a girl who is ungrateful. The theme of this story is that a person shouldn’t have to change who they are for another person to like them, even if they are in love.
The main character of “Catch the Moon” is a boy named Luis who lives in the Hispanic Barrio. He is dealing with the loss of his mother and the pain he had been hiding for years. He went to jail for breaking into a house, and was told by the court that he owed free labor to his father who worked in a car junk yard. He meets a girl, who’s family owns the funeral service that helped with his mother’s funeral, who he likes. She is missing a hubcap for her old Volkswagen buggie and Luis makes it his duty to find it. While Luis looks for the hubcap he starts to think about his mother, and how much he never realized how much he missed her. He found the hubcap for the girl and, started to change when he realized how the girl made him think about his mother. He broke down crying when he thought about his mother and how much he never grieved for her and missed her. Some people change when they are unable to grieve for someone they had lost, sometimes they look for attention by doing things that are wrong, and showing love and grief for someone they lost can be difficult, but it is always important to let go and grieve.
Love can control, and change people. It can change their behaviors and their action. It can heal, and hurt. Never change in the loss of someone you love and never loose something you love for some else. Many people change in the presence of others, and at the loss of someone close to them. Many people hide their grief, and their love for other things, but it is always good to some your love for something and someone you love. Hiding feelings for something or someone can be a mistake that can affect people in the long run. Grief and acceptance is something many people should learn and know.

“Catch the Moon” Grief Paragraph.

The change Luis experiences after he address the grief he feels for his mother’s death is believable. Luis started to become a bad kid after his mother died. He started hanging out with people that taught him that wrong was the right way to go. Luis's dad made a statement that Naomi reminded him of Luis's mother when she was young. Maybe the dad's statement is what started to make Luis change. In the end Naomi say Luis crying and that also could have changed him. In real life, my mom and my dad seperated when I was 11 and after that my brother, sister and I started to become to much for anyone to handle. Finally, we realized that they weren't getting back together and we just needed to accept it.

Homeroom Reform Essay: New Computers

SPA students, if they had laptops they wouldn’t come in to class and say that they lost their homework assignment. San Pasqual Academy has not reached its full potential because it does not have all the supplies it needs. SPA needs new materials in order for these students to finish their tasks.

We believe that if SPA had a new set of computers on campus, more students would be able to finish their assignments on time. This will work if we had up to date computers running properly and quicker therefore, students will be able to learn and accomplish daily work. It needs funding because it would make grades go up and the computers that we have lack several of those requirements. If we had these needs met the students grades should improve drastically.

If we had new computers that the students could work on, they wouldn’t have an excuse to say they lost their homework. This would help me personally because I would be able to do my schoolwork and complete assignments. Another way it would help me is to improve my technology skills. That’s why getting new computers would benefit me personally.

The contributions that made towards the purchase of new computers would also benefit students in realizing the cost of a computer. They way I have already worked on this project is by informing teachers we need better technology in order to maintain or improve our grades. Another way I have helped this project is having a specific time I use the computer in order for other kids to get their work done. In realizing the cost of a computer, students will take their computer assignments more seriously.

If we had new computers for our school it would help the teachers take into consideration giving more assignments online instead of paper. The way the project will help the students of SPA is would teach them how to conserve materials such as paper. Another the way the project will help the Students of SPA is helping them with their typing and technology skills. Overall, computer will help the environment and the students of San Pasqual Academy.

I believe that if SPA had a new set of computers, students should be able to accomplish daily tasks that are assigned to them. If we had new computers there would be more assignments turned in. Students might also respect the purchase of a new computer. Finally, teachers would take into consideration conserving paper if we had new computers. I feel that if this campus had a new set of computers, completing assignments would be less stressful.

I wrote this essay by myself. I wrote it for the KNSD Homeroom Essay Contest.

Kiki, Amy and I when up to the office and on the way back I had a panic attack. After that I came back to the tech center and sat in the hallway and watched the movie "Freedom Writers." We went to the gym and watched people play basketball and volleyball. The sophmores won the basketball game which was pretty cool. Then I watched the volleyball game and the students were really hyped up. Finally, after I went home and watched television with my house.

"SPA Theme Song."

"Make It Shine" by Victorious Cast

Here I am
Once again
Feeling lost but now and then

I breathe it in
To let it go

And you don't know where you are now
Or what it would come to
If only somebody could hear

When you figure out how
Your lost in the moment
You disappear

(Chorus)
You don't have to be afraid
To put your dream in action
Your never gonna fade
You'll be the main attraction

Not a fantasy
Just remember me
When it turns out right

Cause you know that if you live in
Your imagination
Tomorrow you'll
Be everybody's fascination

In my victory
Just remember me
When I make it shine

This song represents San Pasqual because it's basically saying that people are going to have bad days and then good days. SPA represents a place where foster youth receive more opportunities than they may get somewhere else. "You don't have to be afraid to put your dreams in action" basically states that youth could do whatever they want to do in life. " Just remember me when I make it shine," to me means that kids could graduate from here and be successful, and the kids who didn't are going to remember the ones that used all the opportunities that SPA gave. This song is indicative of the way I perceive San Pasqual.

“’The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant’ compared to “I’m Gonna Miss Her.”

"The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant" compares to Brad Paisley's song "I'm Gonna Miss Her" in some ways. The narrator in the story chose Sheila over the fish he had hooked on the line. In the song the man chose the fish over the girl and he regreted that he chose the fish. In the story the fourteen year old boy choses the girl over the fish and he regreted that he chose the girl over the fish. For example in "I'm Gonna Miss Her" in his line he states, "That I'm gonna miss her. " This seems that he should of chose her over the fish. In the story, Sheila says that shes going to get a ride home from another boy. For example, the boy cuts his line loose, but when Sheila told him that he said he would never make the same mistake again. Both the story and the song show that their isn't just one right decision.

Internal and External Conflicts in “The Bass, The River, And Sheila Mant.”

In the story “The Bass, The River, And Sheila Mant,” The narrator faces both external and internal conflict. The internal conflict is the fish and Sheila. He doesn't know which one he wants to chose. The external conflict is the fish. He hooked the bass in the river, and he knew it was the biggest one he caught yet. He didn't want sheila to see the fish that he had caught. The external was resolved in this story was that he cut the line the fish was hooked to. As a result of these conflicts the narrator changes by never making the same mistake again.

"Catch the Moon" Falling in Love.

I believe that falling in love does change a person. When people start to love someone their behavior usually tends to change. For example, I've noticed that people get caught up in their love cycle that they start to ignore the people they care about. When someone in a relationship is upset the usually won't talk to anyone but if their "love" comes it seems to brighten their day. On the other hand, when that person is upset they take it out on the ones they love the most. When falling in love, people are motivated by trust and personality.
